Gay Marriage Supporters: If You Oppose Gay Marriage, You Are Not Entitled To Free Speech

In our world of "people can say whatever they want regardless of the consequences," we have a nation where individuals are free to vocalize their opinions, no matter how asinine.  This freedom has continually been upheld by the Supreme Court.  In fact, here are a couple of recent cases demonstrate the Court's commitment to this First Amendment:

1)  The Stolen Valor case - The Supreme Court in this most recent term struck down the "Stolen Valor Act."  The Act was passed as a reaction to a man who had never served in the military who claimed that not only he had he served as a Marine, but that he had received a Congressional Medal of Honor.  In the opinion by the Court, Justice Kennedy said that the 1rst Amendment "protects the speech we detest as well as the speech we embrace.

2)  Violent Videos for Children - Last year, the Court stated that it is unconstitutional to ban the selling of violent videos to children.  While most of us would be shocked and offended at the notion that children should be the target of violent video games and think it incredibly irresponsible for any company to try to sell these bloody games to kids, the Court held that this is a form of free speech and therefore, constitutional.

There have been several more in recent years that defend free speech as well.

So, why then, would elected officials take it upon themselves to demonize Chick-fil-A because the owner supports traditional marriage?  Is this not a protected First Amendment right?

As I pondered this, it occurred to me that the entire LGBT movement has used the strategy of silencing the other side for years. Do you feel comfortable stating that you support traditional marriage in any public setting?  Or, do you feel you will be discriminated against?  They have made it so that it is okay to insult, slander, mock, scorn or otherwise deride anyone who disagrees with them.  I guess they have free speech and we don't.

Another example is when when King and Spalding (law firm) had agreed to defend DOMA, the LGBT community protested and the firm changed their mind.  This caused the lead attorney in the case to actually quit working at that firm and join another one.  In other words, they don't even want those that support traditional marriage to have a fair fight in court.

I fear the fact that those who oppose gay marriage do not have anywhere near the organization that gay-marriage supporters have.  This has been going on for decades and unless those that support gay marriage stand up and organize, the war will be lost.

Justice Clarence Thomas - Amazing Man

I came across a video of an interview the Justice Thomas gave to 60 minutes awhile back.  It provides amazing insight into the history of a man that many only know through the eyes of Anita Hill.

I was fascinated to learn his history, growing up in a segregated South and facing discrimination for being black after graduating from Yale law school. He was then influenced by the conservative belief that individuals should work hard and be judged by their work and not by the color of their skin.

Really very interesting for anyone who wants to learn more about a usually secretive Justice:

Here's an unfortunate short quote from Obama where he has the gaul to question Thomas's strength as a candidate for the Court even as he was running for president as a very inexperienced candidate:

And here is why Thomas is now one of my favorite Justices on the Court.  This is only a few seconds and is a clip of the first video above where Thomas tells the Senate Judiciary Committee they are involved in a "high-tech lynching" -

Local Governments Illegally Discriminating Against Chick-Fil-A

Discrimination is rearing its ugly head as government officials are persecuting Chick-fil-A and Dan Cathy (President) after he expressed support of traditional marriage. Boston mayor Thomas Menino has stated Chick-fil-A is not welcome in Boston and Chicago mayor has followed, both claiming Chick-fil-A discriminates against the LGBT community. To clarify, discrimination is defined as
"treatment of consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit." (according to dictionary.com).
Dan Cathy is not suggesting that Chick-fil-A will not serve LGBT individuals. He is not changing his treatment of LGBT individuals based upon his view that marriage is defined as being between a man and woman. To express these ideas is not discriminatory. For the government to deny business opportunity due to one's belief, is.

As Chicago became the latest city to tell Chick-fil-A it isn't welcome because its president doesn't support gay marriage, legal experts said the communities don't have a drumstick to stand on.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel became the second big-city mayor to blast the company over president Dan Cathy's comment last week that he is “guilty as charged” for supporting the traditional definition of marriage. Emanuel spoke up after Alderman Proco Joe Moreno announced he intends to block the chain from opening its second Chicago location over his stance.
But barring the popular fast-food restaurant over the personal views of Cathy is an “open and shut” discrimination case, legal scholars told FoxNews.com.
“The government can regulate discrimination in employment or against customers, but what the government cannot do is to punish someone for their words,” said Adam Schwartz, senior attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois. “When an alderman refuses to allow a business to open because its owner has expressed a viewpoint the government disagrees with, the government is practicing viewpoint discrimination.”
- Adam Schwartz, American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois
The ACLU “strongly supports” same-sex marriage, Schwartz said, but noted that if a government can exclude a business for being against same-sex marriage, it can also exclude a business for being in support of same-sex marriage.
“But we also support the First Amendment,” he said. “We don’ think the government should exclude Chick-fil-A because of the anti-LGBT message. We believe this is clear cut.”

Capitalism Wins In Chick-fil-A Battle

After being publicly attacked by multiple anti-traditional marriage activists, Chick-fil-A gets defended on the grounds of capitalism.  If you like, you will buy it.  Watch here:

Voter Fraud Rocks Virginia and Kentucky

Two instances of voter fraud are being reported today. The first has Mitt Romney asking for further investigation as voter registration cards were sent to children, pets, and deceased individuals in Democrat-leaning communities.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's campaign is asking Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to launch an investigation into voter-registration forms that are being sent to Virginia residents and addressed to deceased relatives, children, family pets and others ineligible to vote.
The errant mailings from the Washington-based nonprofit group Voter Participation Center have befuddled many Virginia residents, leading to hundreds of complaints.
The organization has been mass-mailing the forms — pre-populated with key information such as names and addresses — to primarily Democratic-leaning voting blocs such as young adults, unmarried women, African-Americans and Latinos. (LINK)
The second instance is a story for Hollywood. Votes being bought by drugs and money.
Voter fraud has a shocking new meaning in eastern Kentucky.
That is where in some cases, major cocaine and marijuana dealers admitted to buying votes to steal elections, and the result is the corruption of American democracy. The government continues to mete out justice in the scandal, as two people convicted in April in a vote-buying case face sentencing this week, and another public official pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy.
"We believe that drug money did buy votes," Kerry B. Harvey, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky, said of a separate vote-buying case.
He described a stunning vote-buying scheme that includes "very extensive, organized criminal activity, involving hundreds of thousands of dollars, and in many cases that involves drug money." Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/07/25/drug-money-funds-voter-fraud-in-kentucky/#ixzz21eW7pSGf

Abortion From Planned Parenthood Takes Two Lives

Due to a complication at Planned Parenthood during an abortion, one woman is dead and others are calling for additional scrutiny for Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood is facing new calls for congressional scrutiny after a Chicago woman died following an abortion at a local clinic last week.
Twenty-four-year old Tonya Reaves died Friday of hemorrhaging following the abortion, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Her death has been ruled an accident.
While Planned Parenthood afterward issued a statement expressing condolences to the family, the abortion provider's most vocal critics in Washington swiftly began calling for a closer look into the group's safety guidelines and financial practices.
Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., who launched a probe into Planned Parenthood earlier this year, is now calling for a public hearing on Capitol Hill.
"I would like to put them under oath," he told Fox News. "I would like to find out how they spend our half a billion dollars, and I would also like to explore some of the safety aspects, particularly in light of this death, of this tragedy."
Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/07/24/rep-wants-public-hearing-on-planned-parenthood-after-woman-death/#ixzz21ePLbMYp
While any death is tragic, let us not forget that Planned Parenthood murders children every day. Taxpayer money is being used to fund these deaths. In the wake of this additional tragedy, let us call our representatives to encourage defunding Planned Parenthood's abortion operations. At this next election, use your vote to bring into office individuals that support the child's right to life.

Administration Controlling the Media

Checking in on the news today and saw this little gem:
Vice President Joe Biden will take questions from reporters on a White House press call today, and as has been the case in the past, the on-the-record conversation will be embargoed until the end of the call.
The curious caveat -- who would write an article during the middle of the call? -- is a product of the post-Twitter presidential campaign, barring reporters from the beloved habit of tweeting remarks in real-time.
But it begs the question: If it's going to be in an article 20 minutes later, why can't it be on Twitter right now?
From White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest, via email: "The embargo will allow journalists to hear the entirety of the Vice President’s remarks and get the benefit of having their questions answered -- before trying to condense a 30-minute conference call about a 20-page NEC report into a 140 characters."

What is claimed to be to allow all questions to be answered is really an opportunity to allow the White House to change the on the record report in case Joe Biden does what he usually does, open mouth, insert foot.  Some might call this censorship.

Ice-T Defends Gun Rights

I'll admit, I love me some Ice-T when I watch Law and Order: SVU.  He works that tough guy angle perfectly.  But when I saw that he also defended gun rights, a whole new level of respect developed for him.

Ice-T: Well, I'll give up my gun when everybody does. Doesn't that make sense? If there were guns here, would you want to be the only person without one?

Krishnan Guru-Murthy, anchor, Channel 4 News: So do you carry guns routinely at home?

Ice-T: Yeah, it's legal in the United States. It's part of our Constitution. You know, the right to bear arms is because that's the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It's to protect yourself from the police.

Anchor: And do you see any link between that and these sorts of incidents (Aurora)?

Ice-T: No. Nah. Not really really. You know what I'm saying, if somebody wants to kill people, you know, they don't need a gun to do it.

Anchor: It makes it easier though, doesn't it?

Ice-T: Not really. You can strap explosives on your body, they do that all the time.

On anti-gun laws: "That's not going to change anything. The United States is based on guns, you know."

Advertising Bedroom Activities OK, but Breastfeeding Not Allowed in Military

I just want to make sure I understand what's happening....
The military has recently decided that marching in a gay pride parade while in uniform and being on active duty is going to be allowed but breastfeeding your child, a completely natural and healthy activity- while in uniform is NOT allowed.

The second story denotes that two women, who had their picture taken while breastfeeding, were in the wrong according to the military.
According to the AP, The Washington National Guard and Fairchild Air Force Base say the two mothers were "wrong to be photographed in uniform." National Guard Capt. Keith Kosik said that it's a violation of regulations to use the uniform to promote a cause but the women will likely not be punished.
So I guess I'm just confused- because it would seem to me that marching in a gay pride event would be using the uniform to promote a cause.  What a shameful decision on the part of the military to disgrace two loving mothers while promoting the cause of gay marriage to further advance their political objectives.

"You Didn't Build That" Is Exactly What They Say In China

I was in China last week learning about what it is like for people that live in a country where the government is considered the prime decision-maker, more wise than the individual.  In China, the government's pervasive influence can be felt in every single aspect of life.  As I considered how grateful I am to be from the United States, I read on the news that my president thinks that the hardworking entrepreneurs that created the economic booms and amazing inventions in the United States are actually not responsible for their own success.  The leader of the free world is trying to make the case to the citizens of this unique country that we are only successful because of government. This correctly was offensive to many Americans whose hard work is the bedrock of this country and always have been.

Thanks to freedom of speech afforded us here, we have the right to oppose this ridiculousness and stand up for those that he won't - the small business owner.  Obama doesn't care about business owners, that is not the demographic he is after.  So, he can say whatever he wants.

But, Americans know better.  This one needs to be shouted from the rooftops.  We must keep reminding everyone that our president, the guy who is the leader of the free world, the man who presides over the world's flagship democracy, the president of the country that was once lead by President Reagan, actually thinks this:

There are swing voters who aren't paying attention yet.  So, let's make sure to keep this one going until they are.

Gun Law Funny

Mitt Romney Responds To Shooting

Mitt Romney's remarks following the Colorado tragedy:

Good morning, and thank you for joining with the senator and me on this very sad day. And thank you to Father Christian for beginning this gathering with a -- with a word of prayer.
Our -- our hearts break with the sadness of this unspeakable tragedy. Ann and I join the president and first lady and all Americans in offering our deepest condolences for those whose lives were shattered in a few moments -- a few moments of evil -- in Colorado.
I stand before you today not as a man running for office but as a father and grandfather, a husband, an American. This is a time for each of us to look into our hearts and remember how much we love one another and how much we love and how much we care for our great country. There’s so much love and goodness in the heart of America.
In the coming days we’ll surely learn more about the lives that have been lost and the families that have been harmed by this hateful act. We’ll come to know more about the talents and the gifts that each victim possessed, and we’ll come to understand the hope and the opportunity that’s been lost.
Our hearts break for the victims and their families. We pray that the wounded will recover and that those who are grieving will know the nearness of God.
Today we feel not only a sense of grief, but perhaps also of helplessness. But there is something we can do. We can offer comfort to someone near us who is suffering or heavy-laden. And we can mourn with those who mourn in Colorado.
This morning Colorado lost youthful voices which would have brightened their homes, enriched their schools and brought joy to their families. Our prayer is that the comforter might bring the peace to their souls that surpasses our understanding. The Apostle Paul explained, blessed be God, who comforteth us in all our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble.
What we do know is how evil is overcome. And we’re seeing that greater power today in the goodness and compassion of a wounded community. Grieving and worried families in Aurora are surrounded with love today, and not just by those who are with them and holding them in their arms. They can also know that they’re being lifted up in prayer by people in every part of our great nation. Now and in the hard days to come, may every one of them feel the sympathy of our whole nation and the comfort a living God.
There will be justice for those responsible, but that’s another matter for another day. Today is a moment to grieve and to remember, to reach out and to help, to appreciate our blessings in life. Each one of us will hold our kids a little closer, linger a bit longer with a colleague or a neighbor, reach out to a family member or friend. We’ll all spend a little less time thinking about the worries of our day and more time wondering about how to help those who are in need of compassion most.
The answer is that we can come together. We will show our fellow citizens the good heart of the America we know and love.
God bless you for being here and sharing together this moment of sorrow. And God bless the United States of America.
Thank you. (LINK

A Tale Of Two Mandates: Obamacare and China’s One Child Policy

China’s One Child Policy is offensive to those who believe that individuals should be free to control their own destiny and that families are the central most important unit in society.  While the Chinese government insists that it is a necessary law for population control, the One Child Policy is a prime example of a government mandate that directs the will of a few on many.  Having recently returned from Beijing, I was able to learn quite a bit about how this law works, and what I found was that conditions in America are not as far away as one might think from allowing for a similar law here.

Understanding the opposition to Obamacare
It has been difficult for those who support Obamacare to understand why so many Americans are opposed to the government’s nearly-complete takeover of the health-care system.  What is telling is that even attorneys who support Obamacare admit that it is an expansion of power.  They support, of course, the constitutionality of the statute, but they acknowledge that this law represents an unprecedented exercise of power.

So, what are the limits of this newly-defined taxing power?  What other types of mandates can the government impose on us via the taxing power?  Let's take a look at Obamacare and China's One Child Policy.  Though the scope of the two laws are different, the similarities are striking.

Both compel citizens to make a decision they may not have otherwise made
Obamacare, of course, directs that virtually all Americans purchase health insurance that is approved by the government.  Americans who wish to avoid the mandate are charged a penalty (or as the Supreme Court calls it, a tax) for non-compliance. Pre-Obamacare, those who find themselves without health insurance tend to make an economical decision regarding what path to take.  Some individuals may choose to purchase individual insurance.  This can be costly. Some may make a rational decision, based on their age and health, to not purchase insurance.  However, with Obamacare, those individuals do not have that choice.  They are forced to purchase government-approved insurance.

Further, Obamacare compels companies to make decisions they may not make otherwise.  Consider the directive that basic insurance cover contraception.  For religious institutions that have previously benefited from America’s deep respect for freedom of religion, this directive is out of sync with their beliefs.  They are being forced to insure something that is directly opposed to their religion.

China’s One Child Policy is also a mandate from the government.  Implemented in 1979, Chinese families are only allowed to have one child.  Recently, the Chinese government loosened the policy in some areas to allow certain families who each come from one-child families to have a second child, if that child is born 5 years after the first child, with some exceptions.  This represents a massive family-planning directive that commandeers the choices of parents to choose for themselves how many children to have.  Consider the Chinese parents that desire larger families, the children that grow up lonely, or the parents who believe that strong families are the bedrock of a strong society.  The policy removes the choice of individuals.

Both are enforced by a tax
For Chinese families that choose to have a second child (or in the case where a second child is allowed, a third child), the enforcement is surprisingly similar to the Obamcare tax penalty (though much more severe).  The parents that choose to have an extra child are charged an initial hefty fine.  Then, the parents are responsible to pay all charges that the government may otherwise pay for the child (school fees, hospital fees, etc.) And, as if that isn’t enough, the parents must pay 15% of their income to the government until that child turns 18.

With Obamacare, individuals who choose not to purchase health insurance are taxed (Despite how much Obama wants to call it a penalty, he can’t have his cake and eat it to.  For it to be Constitutional, he has to admit that it is a tax.)  The amount of the tax equates to approximately 2-3% of one's annual income.  And, as anyone can guess, this amount will likely only increase over time.

So, certainly there is a difference in the amount being charged, but the bottom line is that the enforcement of both mandates is through taxation.

Both were justified by their respective government for the “good of all.”

Obama and the Democrats who passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (a title which becomes more ironic each day) claimed that this massive takeover of the healthcare industry was necessary to ensure that health care is available for all.  They assured us that the ends justify the means and any freedom lost is for the greater good.

As for China, it was facing a population explosion (it is interesting to note that after World War II, the Chinese government encouraged its people to have large families to establish a stronger China).  Given the expanding population and inability to keep up with the expanding infrastructure and food distribution needs, the One Child Policy was the remedy concocted by the government.

Conclusion
Certainly those supporters of Obamacare who read this will be outraged that such a comparison is being made between what seems to be an extreme policy in China and Obamacare.  However, the point that needs to be understood is that once we accept and allow the government to take these sort of liberties to make decisions at a national level that should be made at an individual level, America is on the same road to the offensive state of affairs we now see in China.  Is it really that far off that environmentalists who support population control suggest a tax on families that have more than one child?  Now that the precedent has been set by the Supreme Court and Democrats are celebrating what they view as a victory, the course has been set.

If the Supreme Court believes that the taxing power is this expansive, then Americans need to diligently ensure that those elected to higher office are only those who would never use this power.  None of us wants to be China.

Obama Displays Socialist Views

Obama recently showed his disdain for free market enterprise and capitalism when he stated, "If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen." The left seems to think this statement, if seen in it's context, is less incriminating.

While he begins by talking about support that has been provided, he goes on to say:
" Somebody invested in roads and bridges.  If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen.  The Internet didn’t get invented on its own.  Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet." (link)
What the left doesn't seem to understand is that this statement, along with hundreds of others, demonstrates Obama's belief that government involvement is an essential building block for business and success. This varies sharply with those of us that believe that the government's involvement should be minimal. To say the president is a socialist is evident in these statements...the government is essential and individuals and businesses would be unsuccessful without it.

While on the campaign trail, Rick Perry talked about the lack of taxation in Texas and how businesses come to Texas as the government is not as involved. Businesses thrive without government intervention. Despite what Obama would say, businesses existed prior to roads and bridges. Businesses are run by individuals and as business succeeds, the people succeed.

Obama Causes Middle-Class Struggles

From mittromney.com:

"“Every day brings more disappointing news for the middle-class Americans who are struggling in the Obama economy. With millions of Americans out of work and retail sales dropping for the third straight month in June, it’s clear the only people who are ‘doing fine’ are President Obama’s allies and donors. Mitt Romney will deliver a new direction for the country that won’t put the interests of his political allies above the interests of middle-class families.” –Amanda Henneberg, Romney Campaign Spokesperson

The U.S. Economy “Appeared Dimmer” For Middle-Class Americans After Retail Sales Unexpectedly Declined In June:

“Outlook For The U.S. Economy Appeared Dimmer” After Retail Sales Declined For A Third Straight Month. “The outlook for the U.S. economy appeared dimmer Monday after a report that Americans spent less at retail businesses for a third straight month in June. The report led some economists to downgrade their estimates for economic growth in the April-June quarter. Many now think the economy grew even less than in the first quarter of the year, when it expanded at a sluggish 1.9 percent annual rate.” (Martin Crutsinger, “US Economy Appears Weaker As Retail Sales Slump,” The Associated Press, 7/16/12)
“Spending In June Fell In Nearly Every Major Category — From Autos, Furniture And Appliances To Building, Garden Supplies And Department Stores.” (Martin Crutsinger, “US Economy Appears Weaker As Retail Sales Slump,” The Associated Press, 7/16/12)
“Retail Sales Slid 0.5 Percent From May To June” – Concluding The First Three-Month Decline In Retail Sales Since The Fall Of 2008. “Overall, retail sales slid 0.5 percent from May to June, the Commerce Department said. Retail sales hadn't fallen for three straight months since the fall of 2008, at the height of the financial crisis.” (Martin Crutsinger, “US Economy Appears Weaker As Retail Sales Slump,”The Associated Press, 7/16/12)
  • The Decline In Sales Was Unexpected After Many Economists Had Predicted Sales To Grow In June. “Overall retail sales in June fell 0.5% in the month, according to a Commerce Department report. The decline came as many were expecting growth, with economists surveyed by Briefing.com expecting growth of 0.2%.” (Emily Jane Fox, “Gasoline Prices Drag Down Retail Sales,” CNN Money, 7/16/12)
The Retail Sales Decline Is “A Sign Limited Employment Gains Are Taking A Toll On The Biggest Part Of The Economy.” “Retail sales in the U.S. unexpectedly declined for a third straight month in June, a sign limited employment gains are taking a toll on the biggest part of the economy. The 0.5 percent drop followed a 0.2 percent decrease in May, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. The decline was worse than the most-pessimistic forecast in a Bloomberg News survey in which the median projection called for a 0.2 percent rise. The June decrease was broad-based, including car dealers, department stores and gasoline stations.” (Alex Kowalski, “Retail Purchases In U.S. Unexpectedly Decreased 0.5% In June,” Bloomberg, 7/16/12)
“A Weakening Job Market Is Sapping Households Of The Confidence And The Incomes Needed To Boost Expenditures…” “A weakening job market is sapping households of the confidence and the incomes needed to boost expenditures, which account for about 70 percent of the economy. Without gains in spending at retailers such as Target Corp. and Macy’s Inc., the expansion will have a difficult time gaining momentum.” (Alex Kowalski, “Retail Purchases In U.S. Unexpectedly Decreased 0.5% In June,” Bloomberg, 7/16/12)

Middle-Class Americans May Still Be Struggling – But President Obama’s Allies And Donors Are Doing Fine At The Expense Of Taxpayers:

“Nearly 200 Of [President Obama’s] Biggest Donors Have Landed Plum Government Jobs And Advisory Posts, Won Federal Contracts Worth Millions Of Dollars For Their Business Interests…” “More than two years after President Obama took office vowing to banish ‘special interests’ from his administration, nearly 200 of his biggest donors have landed plum government jobs and advisory posts, won federal contracts worth millions of dollars for their business interests or attended numerous elite White House meetings and social events, an investigation by iWatch News has found.” (Fred Schulte, et al, “Obama Rewards Big Bundlers With Jobs, Commissions, Stimulus Money, Government Contracts, And More,” iWatch News, 6/15/11)
“Several Political Allies” Of President Obama Had “Ties To Companies Receiving Chunks” Of Taxpayer Money From The Stimulus. “A joint investigation by ABC News and the Center for Public Integrity that will air on World News with Diane Sawyer tonight has found that Westly is just one of several political allies of the president who have ties to companies receiving chunks of that money through loans, grants, or loan guarantees.” (Brian Ross and Matthew Mosk, “Did Obama Administration Play Favorites With Energy Loans?,” ABC News, 10/30/11)

Mitt Romney's Running Mate....

Mitt Romney has announced that he will announce his running mate sometime between now and the convention in Tampa in August.  Rumor has is that Condoleeza Rice is near the top of the short list of potential VPs.  What are your thoughts?

Romney Rocks the NAACP House!

You're going to see a lot of headlines stating how Romney was booed while he spoke to the NAACP... and while that's true, you're unlikely to see a headline about how he got a standing ovation (he did) and many many cheers.

Romney begins by explaining why he has chosen to speak to group who votes Democrat by 90%.  Romney seeks to represent ALL Americans, and has learned through campaigning in Massachusetts where there was just 11% of Republicans- you win by speaking to all groups.

Romney's ideas, including School Choice, will not only help many black students- but propel them to go anywhere they want- by choosing the school they want to attend and not being limited to the poor, underprivileged school they live in.  The concept of which, got several rounds of applause from the crowd.

Romney reinforces that the family is crucial to the black community, and to the country as a whole.  The crowd clapped when Romney stated he would support marriage being between a man and a woman.

But let's talk about the boos.  Yes, Romney got booed when he said he would repeal Obamacare, but reinforced the idea by stating that 75% of small business owners stated that the institution of Obamacare would cause them to stop hiring.  Romney's focus is jobs and Obamacare will stall that and bankrupt America and Americans in the process!

When Romney stated that if you're looking for a President who will make things better for the African American community, they were looking for him- to which he received both boos and many claps and cheers.

Romney also confirms that if he's president, and the convention asks him to speak next year, he will be privileged to attend and his answer will be yes- which is more than we can say for the pathetic president we currently have.

Romney faces head on his challenges for the election process and isn't one to shy away from his ideals and campaign promises.  He will not tell one group one thing and then tell another group something else.  He doesn't throw a bone to any communities in hopes they will support him.  And let's be honest here, had Romney not attended the convention, knowing he wouldn't get the kind of support a Democrat would get, he would have been labeled racist.  Kudos to Mitt Romney.

Romney Gives Gutsy Speech At NAACP

Amazing and impressive speech by Romney.  He addressed topics that he knew would not be popular.  I highly recommend watching the whole thing (about 24 minutes).

Paul Clement Predicted Obamacare Decision In 2010

Paul Clement, who argued for the 26 states suing the government over Obamacare, is a former Solicitor General to President George W. Bush.  Pretty much everyone should know who he is by now.  He also defended Arizona's law to the Supreme Court and is representing the House of Representatives to defend DOMA.

The day that Obamacare was decided last week was a dark day for many of us who value the freedom we have from government intrusion in our lives.  We were, of course, shocked by the Chief Justice's opinion. It had been speculated, of course, that Justice Kennedy would be the swing vote.

Paul Clement was interviewed the day that the Obamacare ruling came out, and he said that he was surprised, of course, and also frustrated that he didn't have the ability to discuss the taxing power more in the case.  The government had claimed that the law is valid due to the commerce clause in the Constitution, so of course, that is what Clement focused on in his argument.

Either way, no one expected the Chief Justice to do what he did.  At least, almost no one.  The link below has Paul Clement back in 2010 actually saying that the Chief Justice may be an available vote to support Obamacare.  In this clip, he is discussing a different case (Comstock) which he said perhaps could be a precursor decision to the Obamacare case.

Interesting.  I wonder if he remembers saying this.

What Freedom Means This July 4th

Each year on the Fourth of July, we celebrate the birth of our nation with barbecues and fireworks. We wear red, white and blue, raise our flags in our front yards, and sing “God BlessAmerica.” This year, freedom takes on a particularly special meaning as we have a Presidential election this fall. This election will end up meaning more than likely any other election in our lifetimes, no matter how old you are.

Freedom is an interesting concept that has come to mean different things to different people, depending on their core values. Many of our fellow Americans have lost sight of what it was really about in the first days of our struggling Republic. Freedom didn’t used to mean that we were a country of takers where we were owed something by our government, nor did it mean that we hated those who had more than we do.
Freedom used to mean something different entirely. It was about the opportunity that America offered. Freedom meant you could pursue your dreams by working hard. It meant that if your heart desired to be a business owner, you could be. If you wanted to be a doctor, you could be. If you wanted to own a home, and you worked hard enough to pay for it, you could.
The Federal Government was meant to encompass a relatively low amount of power. Those that designed the separation of powers knew that power needed to rest in the people. A government that is too centralized and too powerful would be the downfall of this country. As John Adams said, "The jaws of power are always open to devour, and her arm is always stretched out..."
Freedom of the people was therefore a key interest to be protected in our Constitution. And, so it was. But freedoms, of course, meant that people had to also face the consequences. Never did the Founders dream that the power preserved to the people after so much war and bloodshed would be so readily given up by those very free citizens whom they fought to protect. Here we are, over two centuries later, with a more intrusive government than ever imagined.
Americans do not only desire help from the government, they demand it. The Obamacare Supreme Court ruling is despised by many, but also rejoiced by many. Those who rejoice take the position that “everyone should have access to health insurance.” This utopian belief sits at the forefront of their minds. They reason that the end justifies the means. Many of them don’t even realize what is being sacrificed. For those who hold freedom dearly, the end never justifies the means.
And so it is with our country now. There are those who see freedom for what it is, and there are those that are so exuberant about all of “free” gifts we are getting from the government that they never see what precious commodity is being taken away.
In the last century, FDR permanently changed the course of history for this country when he implemented big government solutions to the economic crisis we were facing at the time. We became a more dependent nation.
President Obama wants to be the FDR of this century. He wants to fundamentally re-position the government’s relationship with each American. He wants to permanently change the meaning of freedom so that this new “give-me” mentality persists into perpetuity.
May everyone have a happy July 4th. But, more than that, may every available American give all they can – money, time, resources – to get this modern-day FDR out of office before his influence is irreversible.
As Dwight D. Eisenhower said, "Every step we take towards making the State our Caretaker of our lives, by that much we move toward making the State our Master."
