1) The Stolen Valor case - The Supreme Court in this most recent term struck down the "Stolen Valor Act." The Act was passed as a reaction to a man who had never served in the military who claimed that not only he had he served as a Marine, but that he had received a Congressional Medal of Honor. In the opinion by the Court, Justice Kennedy said that the 1rst Amendment "protects the speech we detest as well as the speech we embrace.
2) Violent Videos for Children - Last year, the Court stated that it is unconstitutional to ban the selling of violent videos to children. While most of us would be shocked and offended at the notion that children should be the target of violent video games and think it incredibly irresponsible for any company to try to sell these bloody games to kids, the Court held that this is a form of free speech and therefore, constitutional.
There have been several more in recent years that defend free speech as well.
So, why then, would elected officials take it upon themselves to demonize Chick-fil-A because the owner supports traditional marriage? Is this not a protected First Amendment right?
As I pondered this, it occurred to me that the entire LGBT movement has used the strategy of silencing the other side for years. Do you feel comfortable stating that you support traditional marriage in any public setting? Or, do you feel you will be discriminated against? They have made it so that it is okay to insult, slander, mock, scorn or otherwise deride anyone who disagrees with them. I guess they have free speech and we don't.
Another example is when when King and Spalding (law firm) had agreed to defend DOMA, the LGBT community protested and the firm changed their mind. This caused the lead attorney in the case to actually quit working at that firm and join another one. In other words, they don't even want those that support traditional marriage to have a fair fight in court.
I fear the fact that those who oppose gay marriage do not have anywhere near the organization that gay-marriage supporters have. This has been going on for decades and unless those that support gay marriage stand up and organize, the war will be lost.
