I have taken out names, swears, and the Lord's name when used in vain. It's a long read, kind of slow in the beginning, but you'll love his logic!
Friend’s Status
Update
Job
interview Monday. I have to skip school for it but hopefully it'll be worth it!
Teller job at MAJOR BANK.
Liberal Good <gosh>,
banks.
Friend Banks are good jobs.
Good money.
Liberal I'd rather work for
Wal*Mart or mcDonalds, at least they make sense
Friend They don't pay as
well, and thats a lot more physical for a pregnant chick to do. Too much
standing and walking and lifting (in Walmarts case for sure).
Friend But if you've got
anything better, I'm open to lots of things. I just need a job.
Liberal Well COMPANY A is
almost always hiring, though tbh I don't really know any places or have any
connections down there with jobs. I just don't like banks. At all. And would
rather work for a company that has been more vehemently victimized on strict
principle
Me Good luck! I hope it
goes well!
Friend COMPANY A called me
for a job like 10 times. I would work there, but they aren't flexible around my
school schedule. I would have to drop out, or switch to night classes which
would put me getting home at just about midnight. That is just a little too
late for me, especially considering I would be working all day then at school
all night- I wouldn't have time to clean the house, see my 2 year old, make
meals, etc etc. I also am pregnant so I pass out around 10pm- normally I am
more of a night owl but you get SO tired when youre pregnant! I'm going to go
there if nothing comes up when I graduate, but until then it just isn't that
great of an option I'm afraid =/ Anything else? I've been looking for a bank
job because I have 6 years of cash handling experience, and there is a lot of
room for promotions and such in a bank. My friend started getting $14 an hour
after only a few months at a bank.
Liberal Try getting a job at
a Credit Union, or a bank that isn't Wells Fargo or Bank of America
Me Normally I don't
respond to people I don't know on someone's page, but seriously? For someone so
against big business, it looks like you sure like a lot of things made in China
(according to what I can see on your profile). How about supporting American
workers where the money is made here and spent here.
Liberal It's not that I hate
big business, it's that I hate big banks, because all they are is legalized
thievery.
Other Sane Person My aunt works for
Chase. She's not a thief. :/
Liberal "Guilt by
association"
Liberal The idea that banks
can charge you to use your own money makes absolutely no sense, not to mention
the fact that they're at this point necessary to make a living in this country
as you either deal with a bank of your choice or you have to deal with ADP
style pay. What happened to the days of getting a check? What happened to the
days when your money was your money and you could spend it without being
charged for it?
Other Sane Person So go open a bank
and run it the way you think banks should be run.
Me I'm not a huge fan
of astronomical profits for big business, especially if they don't take care of
their employees in terms of paying fair and benefits. What
you're saying doesn't even make sense. First, most people can get an account
without any kind of fee- I have a no fee account. Secondly, you pay a fee for a
service they are providing, which is safeguarding your money and providing you
with an easy way to access it via ATMs and debit cards.
Me Nothing is free.
Liberal It's more so that
you're basically required to have a bank now that bothers me more than
anything, why should anyone be able to tell me what I need to do with my money?
Other Sane Person And what if Friend
DOES get a job with a big bank? Is she supposed to be "guilty by
association" too?
Liberal On top of that I
have been charged for something the bank did, without my permission, to my
account. I have had a bank steal money from me on a month to month basis- and
almost charge me for overdrawing my account too!
Me You don't have to
have a bank, there are credit unions, paypal, prepaid cards. That's not a
banking problem- that's a technology issue. We're moving in the direction of
technology and convenience- banks are simply adapting to stay relevant.
Other Sane Person I'm sorry, I know
this is a serious debate, but you're going to have to explain to me how a bank
"almost charges" something. Either it charges or it doesn't. There's
no almost.
Liberal I use Credit Unions
exclusively after that fiasco I had with Bank of America, but not all credit
unions are good- for a fact I know my mom banks with Credit Union who charges
her something like a dollar every time she runs her card as Debit, which makes
absolutely no sense. On top of that it bothers me that you need to have
something similar to a bank (ala Credit Union or ADP pay system) to be able to
receive payment from most jobs, a paper check should be just fine.
Liberal How a bank
"almost" charged was I only had somewhere along the lines of like
8.50 in my account at the time, that I was going to use for food until I got
paid in like two days. They charged me 8 dollars randomly, which had I used my
card to purchase something before that they would've charged me the overdraft
fee. Not to mention they had never mentioned anything about a monthly fee as
long as I had direct deposit
Me When she uses her
card, is she not using a service someone is providing? Do the lines not have to
be paid for and the card readers, and the employees who keep the service up and
running? Having worked for a credit merchant company in the past, I can tell
you, it costs money to maintain things.
Secondly-
how is a job requiring a direct deposit (which I will agree is common nowadays)
the bank's fault? That's an issue for the job and your HR group. If you don't
like it, talk to your job.
Liberal It is partly the
jobs fault for requiring that, but it's also a bank issue because if banks
never initiated the idea of direct deposit then jobs would never see it and
think it's the way of the future.
Me That is the worst
argument I've ever heard. So it's the fault of the bank for initiating
something that millions of people like and makes their life easier and more
convenient and then offering that service to their customers? What an awful company
for trying to make their customer's lives easier! Just tragic! I
have a feeling we'll never agree on this. I'm probably the epitome of a person
you don't like- I'm pro life, Republican, in favor of the Tea Party concept,
and religious. But it seems like your argument is terribly flawed.
Other Sane Person ... So it's the big
evil banks fault for suggesting something that will make our life easier? Yeah,
I'm out. I just can't read anymore of this.
Liberal How does direct
deposit make life easier?
Liberal If I didn't have to
have a bank for direct deposit, they wouldn't be able to charge me fees for
letting me use my money and therefore I'd be able to, well, use my money for
things I want to use it for.
Me Seriously?? Okay,
fine, I'll play along. When I got a paper check, I had to take a long lunch in
order to get to the bank in time to deposit it. Actually, at that time I was
with a credit union who had even shorter hours than a bank. Often I was late
from lunch. Then I had to wait three days for the thing to clear, meaning I
didn't have money on time to pay my bills. With direct deposit, the money is in
the bank and ready to use first thing in the morning. I could take a leisurely
lunch, and not worry about paying my bills in time. Again,
find an account that doesn't charge you fees. I'm sure that $8 fee is over the
top- so find one that doesn't have a fee. Every bank I've ever banked with
offered a no fee account. Every single one.
Liberal I agree, I've
refused to bank with any bank that charges me to use my money since that
incident, and I've promptly advised all friends or family members to stop
banking with them as well. On top of that, what type of bank do you use that
doesn't instantly clear payroll checks? Oh, and who ever said you would deposit
the check into the bank?
Me So instead I have to
go directly to the bank the check is drawn on and cash my check? And without a
bank, I have to get money orders for things like my mortgage and pay
convenience fees for paying my utilities in person. Yes, that's MUCH more
convenient.
Me I can't chat anymore,
I have to get my kid ready for bed... but this has been an interesting
discussion. Sorry to take your page up Friend! Good luck- I'll send job vibes
your way.
Friend I had at interview
at a credit union, but it was in TOWN 40 min 1 way, plus a toll every day.
Couldn't do it. They weren't hiring for the ANOTHER TOWN branch.
Liberal Wait they charge you
fees...to pay your bills....in cash?
Liberal What a <messed>
up world we live in, good <gosh>.
Friend Also I love my
direct deposit. I don't always have time to go to the bank. Sometimes I need to
use $ from my account before I can deposit the check, especially for gas. Can't
drive all the way from work to the bank with no gas. And I have to have a card
for bills and gas, I don't use cash for those things. I get gas at Sams which
only takes cards, so I can't just pay cash for it. Also, I can't pay my
electric or my car insurance in cash, or they do charge me more. My electric
automatically withdraws every month- my other option is cash, with a $600 deposit.
Liberal Good <gosh>
Liberal What a world what a
world
Liberal And imagine, if
people actually cared, if people actually wanted to help other people how much
better this place would be? But no you have people wanting to eliminate freedom
of choice, who want to hoard money in the name of the American Dream.
Friend Most of my bills I
have to have checks for as well, which require a bank account. You can't just
stick cash in an envelope and mail it. You would have to go get a money order
or a check, which would require a bank or amscot or something. Its 500xs easier
to direct deposit and pay online the morning my check deposits without having
to go anywhere to get or use my money.
Liberal I guess I just don't
understand this world. I'm moving to Europe
Friend I would love to move
to Europe. A lot of their countries have diminishing populations, which mean
they don't have enough workers and the jobs are good. But it's just too far
away from family. I couldn't do it.
Liberal It's not far enough
away from some of my family
