Knowing that this topic would come up, I waited to see how far into this election cycle we would get before my and Romney's religion would be center-stage. I have to say it took longer than expected, but again, here we are, with a prominent TX preacher and visible Perry-supporter, Robert Jeffries, claiming that Mormonism is a cult.
So, what is the answer here? For those that agree with Jeffries, is this going to be the primary reason you vote for someone? If so, that's your call. I respect that every individual can make his or her decisions based on individual preferences, but this is one of those things that makes you look bad, very bad, if you choose the forums offered us during election season to insult someone else's belief system.
I am glad that Perry stated that he doesn't agree with Jeffries (I'd drop my support for him like a rock if he had agreed with Jeffries). I am also glad that others are speaking against it. Bill Bennett rightly said this in response to Jeffries' comments that "Mormonism is not Christianity" -
So, just like I said when people were accusing Perry of being racist a few days ago, I say again now - can we please move on? This is supposed to be about who is making the best case to occupy the Oval Office. Our country needs a dialogue that is focused on our problems and getting Obama out of office. Period.
