We are blogging live from CPAC. Here are the results of the 2011 Straw Poll:
3,742 people participated in the voting. That is more than twice the amount who participated in 2007. Only CPAC registrants are allowed to participate (both your faithful bloggers participated this year!). This year had the most participants of all time for CPAC. The largest demographic was 18-25. The majority are men.
"Which ONE issue comes the closest to your core beliefs?" The size and scope of government. This was the same top issue for last year's straw poll. The straw poll participants were consistent in our message.
According to the straw poll, only 50% of respondents think that the new Republicans will be able to actually cut spending.
Presidential straw poll winner - Ron Paul - 30%. (this was announced to a standing ovation at the conference)
Second place winner - Mitt Romney - 23%.
No one else comes close to these top two.
These are almost the same numbers as last year's straw poll.
43% of respondents said they were not satisfied with the names of the potential Republicans on the Presidential candidate list.
